Students are accommodated in fully equipped self-catering cottages at Umshanti in Buffeljagsrivier, just outside Swellendam. These cottages sleep up to ten people and are perfect for group stays. Situated beside the Buffeljags Dam, this resort offers a peaceful and scenic environment.
Umshanti provides plenty of space for outdoor activities, including a campfire lit every night for students and their mentors to gather and reflect on their experiences. There’s also a double-decker raft for river excursions and canoes available for hire.
A conference/dining room is available for talks or demonstrations, such as Snake Awareness sessions with a local snake catcher, or a fascinating talk from a gentleman who was one of Nelson Mandela’s guards. Students can also enjoy hands-on experiences like the Art of Making Potjiekos
Breakfasts and packed lunches are provided daily at Rolande farmstall just two minutes away. For evening meals, students can dine at local restaurants such as Woodpecker Pizzadeli and Greenlands. Woodpecker Pizzadeli is known for its delicious thin-base pizzas and pasta dishes, while at Greenlands, the students will eat and perform with the Zolani Youth Choir, and enjoy the unique ice cream flavours which Greenlands is famous for!
Special themed evenings, such as a Potjiekos night, a Curry night, and a final Braai night, are held at Umshanti, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable stay for everyone.
