About Us
Global Partnerships Swellendam is driven by the unique collaboration of its two founders and co-directors, Amanda Shackley and Graham Mutyambizi. Amanda, born and raised in the UK, and Graham, from Zimbabwe, bridge a 37-year age difference and a world of experiences to form a dynamic team. Their friendship and partnership, spanning over a decade, are built on a shared sense of humour, similar political outlook, a love of gadgets, and a deep desire to improve the lives of those around them.
Amanda brings a wealth of experience in education and tourism. She spent 35 years as an English and Drama teacher in the UK, leading numerous school excursions to destinations such as the USA, Russia, Greece, Spain, Austria, and South Africa. Captivated by South Africa’s charm, she relocated permanently in 2006 and continued to facilitate dance and drama trips to Cape Town for UK schools. From 2007, Amanda and her late husband hosted mini-gap programmes in Swellendam, offering UK students tailored community projects and hands-on experiences in fields such as medicine, farming, mechanical engineering, and education.
Graham, with his diverse background and innovative spirit, complements Amanda’s extensive experience. Together, their work has enabled them to establish strong networks and relationships within the local community, laying a robust foundation for Global Partnerships Swellendam. Their joint efforts are dedicated to creating impactful community projects that enrich both the lives of the participants and the residents of Swellendam.
